Parliamentary Committee on environment

Today, I appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining, chaired by Hon. Eng. Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), to address an inquiry on the alleged dumping of toxic and nuclear waste in North-Eastern Kenya during the 1980s and 1990s.

I outlined the Ministry’s mandate in regulating and preventing hazardous and nuclear waste dumping, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and protecting the environment.

I further briefed the Committee on the enhanced measures now in place for the safe management of radioactive waste — critical steps as the country advances plans to establish nuclear power plants to boost electricity generation and strengthen our energy security
