On the sidelines of the 2nd Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, I addressed delegates at a side event on “Financing Energy Transition in Africa.”

I underscored Africa’s paradox of abundant renewable resources yet millions live without electricity or clean cooking solutions, calling for a just and inclusive transition.

Kenya, with over 75% electricity access and a goal of universal access by 2030, is advancing clean cooking and leveraging its participation in Mission 300 to connect millions more.

The country’s National Energy Compact sets bold targets, anchored on partnerships and collective ambition.

I also emphasized the need for affordable and catalytic financing, de-risking instruments for private investment and strong multi-stakeholder platforms to align priorities and maximize impact.

I invited partners to invest, innovate and collaborate with Kenya, reaffirming that the Energy Compact is both a plan and promise to power communities and protect the environment.
