Alongside my colleague, PS Mohamed Liban (Petroleum), we joined CS Opiyo Wandayi for a meeting with State Agencies (SAGAs) and ministry officials to assess progress and strategize on achieving the Presidential Directive to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
Cumulatively, the Ministry of Energy & Petroleum has planted over 11 million trees and continues to play a key role in this agenda by integrating sustainable energy solutions with afforestation efforts. Through clean energy adoption, the ministry is actively reducing reliance on biomass fuels, which are a major driver of deforestation.
Additionally, energy agencies are spearheading projects that support reforestation and agroforestry, including the establishment of green energy corridors and carbon offset programs linked to geothermal, wind and solar power developments.
